MSNBC hosts Zerlina Maxwell and Ayman Mohyeldin are losing their streaming shows on Peacock. This comes as NBC News is placing an increased emphasis (and resources) on its substantial portfolio of streaming news offerings.
Variety was first to report the news of the shows’ cancellations.
Maxwell, who has worked with MSNBC since 2018 as an analyst and whose Peacock program was among MSNBC’s first streaming offerings launching on Oct. 5, 2020, will host her final Peacock program on Sept. 15. MSNBC executives would like Maxwell to stay on in an analyst role.
Mohyeldin, who launched a program that airs weekends on the MSNBC cable channel and streaming weekdays on Peacock, will keep his MSNBC weekend primetime duties. He will also continue to serve as a substitute host during MSNBC’s weekday primetime schedule.
Personalities who continue to host MSNBC shows on Peacock include Mehdi Hasan, former White House advisor Symone Sanders, NBC News legal analyst Katie Phang and—coming this fall—former White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
Zerlina and Ayman are the first two MSNBC on Peacock programs to be canceled since the hub launched on Peacock as The Choice From MSNBC in October 2020.
MSNBC announced back in March that it was expanding its programming, specials and documentaries within a new dedicated hub on Peacock, providing content to paid subscribers ($4.99 per month) for the first time without a cable subscription and being rebranded as the MSNBC hub on Peacock.
In addition to original live news offerings, the MSNBC hub on Peacock features episodes of analysis programming including Morning Joe, Deadline: White House, The Beat with Ari Melber, The ReidOut, All In with Chris Hayes and MSNBC’s weekend analysis programming—all streaming on-demand the next day.
Additionally, there will be specials hosted by Rachel Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, Chris Hayes, Trymaine Lee and others premiering later this year—and streaming exclusively on Peacock.
Additionally, the MSNBC hub features all documentaries from MSNBC Films, including Diamond Hands: The Legend of WallStreetBets, an NBC News Studios and ZCDC production, all of which are available to stream next day on Peacock.
