MSNBC is disputing a National Review Online report that suggests Rachel Maddow holds significant power in both network editorial vision and personnel decisions.
“This is categorically false,” Rachel Maddow said. “I have never had any role in any management decision at MSNBC. Any source who says otherwise is wrong.”
An MSNBC spokesperson tells TVNewser Maddow’s show keeps her busy.
“Rachel has absolutely no role in network management decisions. Writing her show every night is more than enough work. She gladly leaves talent management to her bosses.”
NRO also reports former “Ed Show” and “Countdown” EP Rich Stockwell has been tasked with reviewing scripts before they go on-air following the recent string of crude comments.
“MSNBC has had an editorial and script review process in place since the network began in 1996,” a network spokesperson tells TVNewser, claiming Stockwell’s responsibility is neither new or in response to recent controversial comments. Stockwell was promoted to senior executive producer in May of 2013.
MSNBC recently denied a Page Six report claiming Maddow was behind Alec Baldwin’s exit.
The network has some key upcoming management and personnel decisions to make: both the 11am and noon eastern hours have host vacancies starting January 13, when Thomas Roberts begins as host of “Way Too Early” and Alex Wagner replaces Martin Bashir at 4pm.
