MSNBC Celebrates 15 Years With Fireworks Over the Hudson

Last night, people on the west side of Manhattan were surprised by fireworks on the Hudson River, starting around 9:45 PM. The fireworks were not for Bastille Day, as one passerby speculated, but rather they were to celebrate the 15th anniversary of MSNBC. To commemorate the occasion, MSNBC held a star-studded affair at the Hotel Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District, with the grand finale being the fireworks.

It was 15 years ago this hour that MSNBC went on-air (and online, as they made clear in network promos). Jodi Applegate, now an anchor at WPIX New York, was the first anchor to appear:
