Morning Show Ratings: Week of May 21 & May Sweeps

ABC’s “Good Morning America” takes the week of May 21, as the ping pong match between “GMA” and NBC’s “Today” show continues.

“GMA” outdrew “Today” by just +33,000 Total Viewers. “Today” still had a healthy +242,000 lead in A25-54 viewers.

“Today” also wins the May sweeps by just +15,000 Total Viewers and by +199,000 A25-54 viewers.

“GMA” had its first win in more than 16 years for the week of April 9. And the two shows have gone back and forth since. April 16: NBC, April 23: ABC, April 30: NBC, May 7: ABC,  May 14: NBC.

Season to date “GMA” is the only morning program to grow in Total Viewers (+4%) and A25-54 (+8%) versus its year-ago averages. “Today” is down -4%/-9%, respectively and “CBS This Morning” is down -8%/-10%, respectively.

Compared to the same week last year all three shows are down in Total Viewers, with only “GMA” showing an improvement in younger viewers.

The averages for the week of May 21:

  • Total Viewers: NBC: 5.03M / ABC: 5.07M / CBS: 2.29M
  • A25-54 viewers: NBC: 2.22M / ABC: 1.98M / CBS: 873K

The averages for May sweeps:

  • Total Viewers: NBC: 5.18M / ABC: 5.16M / CBS: 2.53M
  • A25-54 viewers: NBC: 2.25M / ABC: 2.05M / CBS: 993K
