Morning Show Ratings: Week of May 16

morning-show-anchors_640There were no significant changes in the morning show rankings this past week. Good Morning America finished the week of May 16 No. 1 in total viewers, and Today took the top spot in the news demo of A25-54. CBS This Morning, however, continues to cut the deficit slowly but surely.

Despite maintaining its status as TV’s most-watched morning show, GMA was down 6 percent in total viewers and down 10 percent in the news demo from the comparable week in 2015. Approximately 33 percent of its average total audience hailed from the A25-54 demo.

With another win in the demo, Today has been the No. 1 morning show in the demo for nearly nine months, winning 37 of the last 38 weeks. Yet despite the win, the program was down 2 percent in the demo and down 2 percent in total viewers from the comparable week in 2015. Approximately 38 percent of its average total audience hailed from the demo.

CBS This Morning keeps thriving in 2016, and was the only morning show to post year-over-year gains. The program was up 9 percent in total viewers and up 11 percent in the news demo from the comparable week in 2015. Approximately 29 percent of its average total audience hailed from the demo. CTM’s performance is particularly strong among women in the demos: +22 percent in Women 25-54, +17 percent in Women 18-49 from the comparable week in 2015.

The averages for the week of May 16, 2016:

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 4.809 M / NBC:  4.659 M / CBS: 3.781 M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 1.591 M / NBC: 1.796 M / CBS: 1.107 M
