Morning Show Ratings: Week of December 22 and Q4 2014

morningshowanchors2014“Good Morning America” wins the fourth quarter of 2014 among the network morning shows and has now won the last 10 quarters in Total Viewers and the last 9 in the the A25-54 demo.

But the ABC morning show lost viewers in both categories compared to Q4 2013. “GMA” was down -3% in viewers and down -4% in the demo. No. 2 NBC’s “Today” was also down: -2% in viewers and down -9% in the demo. “GMA” outdelivered “Today” by its largest Q4 margin in the demo in 23 years – since Q4 1991.

“CBS This Morning” was the only program to grow, as viewership rose +6%. In fact, this was “CTM’s” best viewer delivery in 21 years (since Q4 1993). In the demo, “CTM” was down -4%.

The averages for Q4, 2014:

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 5.536M / NBC: 4.889M / CBS: 3.225M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 2.057M / NBC: 1.889M / CBS: 996K

For the holiday-shortened week of Christmas, “Good Morning America” once again won the week in total viewers, while NBC’s “Today” show had a rare win in the demo — but by the slimmest of margins: 1,000 viewers or .05%. It should also be noted that the weekly average consists of two days: Monday, Dec. 22 and Tuesday, Dec. 23. Compared to the same week last year, when the average was based on three days (Mon., Thurs., and Friday of Christmas week) two shows saw unusually large jumps: “Today” was up +21% in viewers and up +36% in the demo while “CBS This Morning” was up 21% in viewers and up +11% in the demo. “Good Morning America” was up +2% in viewers and up +8% in the demo.

The averages for the week of Dec. 22, 2014:

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 4.980M / NBC: 4.893M / CBS: 3.163M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 1.915M / NBC: 1.916M / CBS: 922K
