Today’s New York Post reports on a conversation overheard at last week’s Mirror Awards ceremony in which MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzesinski spoke with Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes.

The “Morning Joe” hosts, who just lost their executive producer, Chris Licht, to CBS News, made a tag-team pitch about moving their politically oriented coffee klatch to a morning slot on CNN.

Insiders tell us the exchange was taken out of context, that Scarborough and Brzezinski, who hosted the ceremony, were approached by Bewkes and had the “casual, light-hearted” chat.

Scarborough tells TVNewser, “Mika and I had nice conversation with a CNN executive who joked that we should bring our show to CNN. We laughed, exchanged pleasantries and left the event. Mika and I plan to work at NBC for a long time.”

“Morning Joe” would give a jolt to CNN, however. In May, the show had its best month since November, 2008 topping both CNN’s “American Morning” and HLN’s “Morning Express.”
