More Staff Additions at MSNBC, as Focus Returns to News

MSNBC president Phil Griffin continues to make staff changes as the NBC News channel re-commits to dayside news coverage.

Former CNN and Al Jazeera correspondent Cal Perry joins as senior editor of Video and Digital Content. “If you’ve seen Cal on the air you know he has a knack for finding content that hasn’t yet bubbled up to the mainstream conversation,” Griffin writes in a note to staff, obtained by TVNewser. “He’ll bring those images and videos to life with analysis to add depth and breadth to our coverage.”

Other changes: Madeleine Haeringer, an 18-year NBC News veteran, rejoins the network as ep of MSNBC News Coverage. Griffin says Haeringer “will work closely with correspondents and oversee their editorial content ensuring that it is expertly produced for air.” Haeringer, who had been ep of NBC’s international news coverage, will report to MSNBC execs Izzy Povich and Pat Burkey. Betsy Korona is moving from producing shows to the role of dayside coordinating producer. Griffin says she will also help fill the gap left when Ilyas Kirmani joined Weekend Nightly News as senior producer. Also, 10-year MSNBC veteran Amy Shuster will now lead the dayside booking team.
