NBC News has laid off a handful of staffers on “Today” and “NBC Nightly News,” a network spokesperson confirms to TVNewser.
The layoffs–part of a restructuring on the shows–are a continuation of changes that began a few weeks ago, when the network parted ways with two correspondents and three senior producers on the programs, as we noted last week.
The NY Times Brian Stelter reports that “Today” lost nine staffers as a result of the changes.
NBC News also recently parted ways with staffers on “Rock Center,” which ended its run last month. We hear that some of those staffers were able to secure positions on other NBC News programs. The network says that the layoffs are not a budgetary or headcount issue, and points to a number of new jobs posted to its careers site today.
