The first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings was marked with a moment of silence at 2:49pmET, the time that the two bombs exploded near the finish line in 2013, killing three people and injuring hundreds more.
The broadcast networks presented special reports during the moment of silence: Brian Williams anchored on NBC, George Stephanopoulos on ABC and Scott Pelley on CBS. Pelley is in Boston, while Williams and Stephanopoulos anchored from New York.
Williams was joined by Ron Mott in Boston. ABC’s special report featured Dan Harris from Boston and former New York Police commissioner Ray Kelly, making his first appearance since joining the network.
The cable networks, which also provided live coverage of the moment of silence, have been dipping in and out of a tribute ceremony at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston since it began at noon. Fox News, MSNBC and CNN all aired Vice President Joe Biden’s remarks live around 1:30pmET.
