Former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach is suing ESPN and Spaeth Communications for libel and slander.
The lawsuit claims that ESPN’s coverage of Leach’s firing in 2009 was “willful and negligent defamation” and it failed to “retract false and damaging statements” made from “misinformation” Craig James provided to the network.
Leach was fired two days after he was suspended by Texas Tech following an investigation into the treatment of Adam James, the son of the ESPN college football analyst.
Spaeth Communications is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit, stating James hired the firm for “purposes of creating public opinion hostile to Leach.”
This lawsuit sounds more personal than anything and hopefully won’t jeopardize Leach’s broadcast career.
