The Best Interviewers on TV, According to Mika Brzezinski and Gayle King

By Merrill Knox

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski and “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King, who first met 20 years ago while working at a local Hartford station, recently sat down for lunch with The New York Times’ Philip Galanes. The freewheeling conversation — which covers Brzezinski’s recent Russell Brand interview, sleep aids, King’s friendship with Oprah Winfrey and many other topics — eventually finds its way to Brzezinski and King’s respective co-hosts, Joe Scarborough and Charlie Rose:

PG: Who is the best interviewer on TV today, not including either of you or Charlie or Joe?

GK: That rules out a lot of good people.

MB: I’m going to break the rule and say Joe. One of the reasons I sit next to him is because he does fascinating interviews and finds a way to get right to the point in a way I’ve never seen before.

GK: You’re going with Joe Scarborough over Charlie Rose? I have to respectfully disagree.

PG: And you’re going to go with Charlie Rose?

GK: Yeah.
