The first big business news story of 2008 broke this morning, regarding the possible $40 billion Microsoft-Yahoo deal. Financial news channels quickly scrambled to get the word out, with extensive coverage after the proposed deal was made public. CNBC was first with the news at 6:30amET, when Joe Kernen on Squawk Box read the alert off his computer screen. Fox Business had the news at 6:32amET, with a breaking news alert from Connell McShane.

Bloomberg had the report at 6:30amET as well.
