Lawyer/Legal Analyst Mickey Sherman Sentenced to Prison

Mickey Sherman, who turned a successful law career into a second job as a cable TV news legal analyst, is himself the center of a legal drama which will result in prison time.

Sherman, best known for representing Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel in his murder trial, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for failing to pay around $420,000 in income taxes. Sherman pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay income taxes last summer.

Sherman has appeared as a commentator on MSNBC, CNBC, HLN, Fox News, and CNN. He has also been employed as a legal analyst on CBS News. According to a TVEyes search, his last TV news appearance was December 13 on HLN.

Sherman has repaid $400,000 but still owes about $1.2 million in taxes, penalties and interest from 2001-2009.

Sherman married prosecutor-turned-legal analyst Lis Wiehlin June 2006. Wiehl works for Fox News Channel and was on “The O’Reilly Factor” just last week.
