Michael Che was back playing Lester Holt during SNL’s cold open tonight. Che’s Holt interviewed Alec Baldwin‘s Donald Trump, and got a cameo from an eye-rolling Anderson Cooper.
But the most anticipated sketch came later, as host Melissa McCarthy reprised her role as press secretary Sean Spicer, and Aidy Bryant debuted as deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders filling in for Spicer who was spotted in the bushes.
The anticipation for the sketch was high following sightings of McCarthy outside both NBC and CNN headquarters in Midtown Manhattan Friday morning. In the sketch, McCarthy-as-Spicer rides that motorized podium to New York in search of the truth and Trump, trying to determine if the president has been honest with him. It ended in an awkward kiss.
More: According to overnight ratings, 10.337 million viewers watched, giving SNL its biggest overall audience for a May edition since May 8, 2010, when Betty White hosted.
