TV news writers are summing up Meredith Vieria’s final “Today” show this morning. The highlight had to be the phenomenal live multi-camera, dancing, singing, rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” which brought out the entire “Today” crew.
It was a “blubberfest” on the Today show this morning (Hoda Kotb’s words, not ours) as the team celebrated Meredith Vieira’s last day.
The broadcast made room for news about the nation’s severe-heat advisories and scandal-ridden Congressman Anthony Weiner’s Twitter woes. But throughout the show, tributes and highlight reels honored Vieira’s “Today” tenure.
The only surprise after all the “I love you guys” moments was that the 9-10 a.m. hour didn’t show them all sitting around a campfire in Rockefeller Plaza, having a pajama party and toasting s’mores. But if the tribute went over the top, it was mostly in a good way, and a couple of small things about the show underscored why, in this case, it worked.
