Tom Lowell, currently executive producer of The Kelly File, has been named vice president and managing editor of news for FNC. Lowell, who will report to Fox News EVP Jay Wallace (himself a former show executive producer) will manage all national and international correspondents and investigative reporting. A replacement executive producer for The Kelly File will be named in the new year, Fox says.

“Tom’s skillful producing and managing of The Kelly File has been a tremendous asset to our prime time programming,” said Wallace. “With more than two decades of experience in journalism, that expertise will now play a pivotal role in bringing together all of our news operations as we design and build our new newsroom.”

“There are so many great things coming together that will help us ramp up our breaking news advantage, as well as our original reporting,” added Lowell. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with our great management team and talented staff to deliver even more improvements to America’s most trusted and watched news organization.”

Lowell joined FNC in 2003 as a producer for Fox News Live and was later promoted to senior producer in 2005. In 2007, Lowell launched America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly. He became executive producer in 2009. He launched America Live with Megyn Kelly and executive produced the daytime program for three years until launching The Kelly File in October 2013.

Lowell leaves the Kelly File as the show’s host decides her future. With a contract expiring next year, Kelly is weighing options both inside and outside Fox. As she told us last month, “I’m seriously considering my future and I do feel very grateful that I have a spot at Fox News. But I have to figure this one out and give it all the consideration it deserves. This is a big one for me and I don’t want to screw it up.”
