Meet Tops After Each Convention

The Sundays following the DNC and the RNC were won once again by NBC’s Meet the Press, which was the top-rated Sunday morning public affairs show of the week in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo.

Last week marked the 100th consecutive MTP placed first in Total Viewers.

After the DNC, Tom Brokaw anchored from St. Paul and the site of the RNC.

NBC was the only network to show week-to-week declines from the Sunday before the DNC to the Sunday after, while all networks saw increases between last Sunday and the week before.

In the major political market of Washington D.C., FOX News Sunday finished 2nd (behind NBC’s Meet the Press) both weeks in Total Viewers.

With Sen. Barack Obama as his guest, George Stephanopoulos and This Week saw the most growth week-to-week last week, as well as the most of the four year-to-year.

For August 31, Meet the Press averaged 4,249,000 viewers. ABC’s This Week had 2,867,000, CBS’ Face the Nation had 2,854,000 and FOX News Sunday averaged 1,496,000. NBC, ABC and FOX showed week-to-week gains.

For September 7, NBC had 4,270,000 viewers, ABC had 3,280,000, CBS had 2,880,000 and FOX had 1,500,000.
