It takes a big man to admit he was failed at something. Enter Matt Millen, who tells Fanhouse “I stunk” at being general manager.
This, of course, is completely true. The crowning “achievement” of the former Detroit Lions GM was leading them to the NFL’s first 0-16 season in 2008. That’s something that won’t happen (hopefully) to John Elway – the man Millen was supporting in his comments.
Millen did have some advice for the new Denver Broncos vice president of football operations:
“It’s less about the game of football,” he said. “It’s less about X’s and O’s. It’s less about personnel decisions. It’s a job about managing people. It’s about building a consensus when you pick the right head coach. You can’t go in and be this football czar and say this is how it’s going to work. If you pick somebody that a coach doesn’t like and doesn’t coach, that’s a bad situation.”
Maybe ignore that advice, Mr. Elway. In the meantime, Millen will continue to annoy the world from the NFL Network.
