Matt Lauer Dares Brian Williams to Take Ice Bucket Challenge

By Merrill Knox

It’s 81 degrees in New York City today, but on this morning’s “Today” show, Matt Lauer was likely quite a bit colder. Responding to a challenge issued by Hall of Fame golfer Greg Norman, Lauer participated in the “ice bucket challenge,” which has fairly simple rules: record yourself getting a bucket of ice dumped on your head and call out the next three challengers. If you don’t, you have to donate $100 to charity.

Lauer went with the first option, with a little help from Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly. After it was over, he passed the challenge on to Martha Stewart, Howard Stern and “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams. We’re guessing we won’t see Williams take an ice bath on “Nightly,” but stay tuned…

At least one of Lauer’s challenges will likely go unmet: Stern, interviewing Lauer and Guthrie on his SiriusXM radio show today, said “If someone poured ice on me, I would behead them.”
