Matt Lauer Carries Olympic Torch, His Boss Puts It Out

“Today” show anchor Matt Lauer carried the Olympic torch through Burnaby, B.C. as it traveled to Vancouver for tomorrow’s opening ceremonies, which Lauer will be co-anchoring for NBC.

“It was very overwhelming,” Lauer tells TVNewser afterward. “Tomorrow when I see the torch come in to the opening ceremony, it’s going to mean something so much more to me.”

Lauer wasn’t the only NBCer to carry the Olympic torch. After the jump, Willie Geist reports on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that NBC News President Steve Capus ran with the torch yesterday, though it went out when he was carrying it.

Update: Video of Lauer and the torch from “Today” after the jump.
