Malaysia Air Mystery a Draw for CNN

By Chris Ariens

CooperPlaneCNN’s near nonstop coverage of the mystery of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 has boosted the network’s ratings to new heights. For the third day in a row the network has come in second, to Fox News, in the cable news ratings for full day viewing and in primetime.

Even more rare, the network came in first place in the in the A25-54 demo during three hours last night: Erin Burnett topping Greta Van Susteren at 7pm, Anderson Cooper beating Bill O’Reilly at 8pm and Piers Morgan topping Megyn Kelly at 9pm.

Fox News still came in first among total viewers, more than doubling CNN in the 8pm and 9pm hours. Fox News also won the demo in primetime (8-11pm) as CNN’s viewership was cut in half at 10pm when it moved on from coverage of flight 370 to the second edition of “Chicagoland.”
