Longtime NBC EVP Robert Blackmore Has Died

Robert Blackmore, who spent more than 40 years at NBC, rising to executive vp of ad sales, has died. Blackmore, who was 90 when he died March 9, joined NBC in in 1953 as a sales supervisor with NBC Films in Hollywood. He moved to San Francisco and Chicago, before returning to the West Coast in 1963 to open the sales offices for the Today show and the Tonight Show.

Blackmore spent most of his career at NBC in New York eventually heading up sales and marketing for NBC TV. Among his accomplishments, in the 1985-86 TV season, Blackmore delivered the first $1 billion ever booked in a prime time upfront marketplace. Blackmore retired in 1994 but would go on to co-found Studio One Networks, while serving on many boards.

Services will be held on April 8 at 3 p.m. the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, followed by a reception.
