Letterman Blackmailed: Robert Halderman Pleads Not Guilty

CBS News employee Robert Halderman pleaded not guilty at his arraignment this afternoon. Earlier today, the New York District Attorney confirmed the indictment against the “48 Hours” producer who is being accused of attempting to blackmail “Late Show” host David Letterman for $2 million.

Robert J. Halderman entered his plea as he was arraigned on an attempted grand larceny charge Friday in a Manhattan court. Bail has been set at $200,000.

Last night, as we noted, Letterman revealed that he had been the target of an extortion plot and admitted that he had sexual relationships with women who worked on the show.

Letterman’s show drew 5.84M Total Viewers last night — a jump from 4.4M the evening prior. Interestingly, early numbers show ABC’s “Nightline” drew 5.15M Total Viewers during the 11:35pmET time slot. NBC’s “Tonight” had 2.44M.
