After Bill Clinton and Barack Obama helped boost CBS’ “Late Show” ratings the week prior, David Letterman’s program saw its audience average decrease 880K (330K in the A25-54 demo) week-to-week, though it still came in first. ABC’s “Nightline,” which had a big week of its own two weeks ago, saw its average drop week-to-week (by a smaller margin), but maintained its position ahead of NBC’s “Tonight Show” in Total Viewers and A25-54.

Thursday evening, David Letterman revealed on his show that he had been the victim of an extortion plot. That episode drew roughly 5.8M viewers.
