So much for retirement.

Longtime Washington Post scribe Leonard Shapiro was hired by Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and will serve as a regular contributor to CSNwashington.com and CSNbaltimore.com.

“Len is an institution with a loyal following because of his unique gift for telling stories with passion, insight and color” said Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Senior Vice President and General Manager Rebecca Schulte. “He is part of the region’s sports culture and a significant addition to our expanding team of leading reporters, analysts and insiders serving Washington and Baltimore sports fans.”

Shapiro left WaPo at the end of last year after more than 41 years and 7,400 bylines. Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic continues to beef up their digital platform. Last month, former Washington Times sports reporter Mark Zuckerman and Washington Redskins correspondent Rich Tandler were hired by the network.

“Our strategy is to give sports fans the most comprehensive and accessible coverage of their hometown teams,” said Comcast Sports Group Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer Eric Grilly. “Fans are tuning in because of our investments in our digital platforms and the addition of talented and respected journalists like Len Shapiro.”
