Several people have been laid off from NBC’s “Dateline,” TVNewser has learned.
The layoffs amount to about 10 people in the investigative and booking units of the show. Their responsibilities will be absorbed by current “Dateline” staffers, with the NBC News investigative unit picking up some extra slack for the newsmagazine.
“The number of original hours that Dateline produces each season fluctuates which affects the size of the staff, that’s always been the case,” an NBC News spokesperson told TVNewser. “We’re proud of the work this season and the quality of Dateline continues to go up and expand into new formats.”
Earlier today, NBC News announced the hire of Cynthia McFadden, who joins the network as a senior legal and investigative correspondent after two decades at ABC News. The addition of McFadden is one of several high-profile hires made in NBC News’ investigative unit over the past year, including Richard Esposito and Mark Schone, also from ABC News.
