Larry King’s Next Gig: ‘Bob Costas West’

By Alex Weprin

Earlier this week outgoing CNN host Larry King was interviewed by MLB Network. Anchor Greg Amsinger introduced King as “One of the biggest free agents in the world right now,” and asked him if he was interested in joining the MLB Network team.

“Would I like to join MLB? Absolutely yes,” King told Amsinger. Of coruse, he added, MLB Network does not currently have a west coast office, with its headquarters located in beautiful Secaucus New Jersey.

But King had a suggestion: “I can be Bob Costas west.”

Costas joined MLB Network last year after leaving HBO. In addition to calling games, he also hosts a studio show, “Studio 42 with Bob Costas.”

King took the suggestion seriously, saying that he would like to have a “similar sort of deal” to what Costas has, a studio show where he could do “serious, in-depth” interviews about baseball. King added that he would of course need a baseball-minded producer, and also expressed interest in calling some games.

Of course, Larry already has another gig lined up just in case: bagel salesman.
