Jason Russell, the filmmaker of the viral sensation “Kony 2012” is back in the news for unfortunate circumstances Friday in San Diego. Russell is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after a nude rampage: screaming, pounding his fists, and vandalizing cars. Russell had made the media rounds last week appearing on “Piers Morgan Tonight” and on the “Today” show among others promoting his film about Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army. That video has been viewed 80 million times.

TMZ has video of of the “naked meltdown” which made news last night on shows including “Anderson Cooper 360,” and “FOX Report.” The network morning shows all reported on the breakdown this morning as well.

Danica Russell blames exhaustion and the personal attacks her husband received as the film has been both praised and criticized since going viral. “While that attention was great for raising awareness about Joseph Kony, it also brought a lot of attention to Jason — and, because of how personal the film is, many of the attacks against it were also very personal, and Jason took them very hard,” she said in a statement.
