Keith Olbermann is Bullish on MSNBC

By Chris Ariens

Several of MSNBC’s marquee shows, including  “Morning Joe,” “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” “All In with Chris Hayes,” “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” came in second, ahead of CNN, among total viewers for the month of March. It’s the first time in seven months that all five shows have beaten CNN in total viewers in the same month.

The A25-54 demo in primetime also saw +4% growth vs. February.

But is it enough to forestall more programming changes? A former MSNBC hosts says the network still holds the keys to its success. It just needs to hit the gas.

Keith Olbermann tells the AP he was a direct beneficiary of incoming NBC News/MSNBC news boss Andy Lack‘s knack for spotting talent. “I am the largest example of that,” he says, adding:

“The solution is not that `we need more news’ or that `we need to alter the political viewpoint,’ but what does the content of the shows look like. Do not be afraid to make good television. And in Rachel [Maddow], Phil Griffin, and Andy Lack, they’ve got three people in place who’ve already done that there.”

Olbermann has had two stints at MSNBC. A third isn’t likely, especially if you hear him talk about it on his  ESPN show, where we caught up with him recently to learn about his First Big Break in the business:
