Katie Couric to Magazine Crowd: ‘No offense, but now I know why none of you guys went into television.’

Katie Couric hosted the American Society of Magazine Editors’ National Magazine Awards last night. The Ellies are magazine’s equivalent of the Oscars or Emmys.

The Wrap’s Dylan Stableford writes that Couric, who arrived late, had a pretty classic one-liner which could be taken many ways.

Fred Woodward, GQ’s legendary designer who won the overall design Ellie, spoke at length about his career while accepting the hardware, which led Couric to quip, “No offense, but now I know why none of you guys went into television.”

FishbowlNY’s Ujala Sehgal live Tweeted the event. Of Couric’s role, she writes,

[Couric] professed her enthusiasm for the magazine industry, but in particular, her love of Garden & Gun, nominated for General Excellence in the ”Food, Travel, and Design category.” When Garden & Gun went on to win, Couric announced, “I know which after-party I’ll be going to!”
