Kathleen Koch Writes of a ‘Gut-Wrenching’ Post-Katrina Journey For Her Hometown

Among the reporters covering Hurricane Katrina five years ago was former CNNer Kathleen Koch. And now, she’s written a book about the storm’s devastation.

Koch, who left CNN nearly two years ago, is the author of Rising from Katrina: How My Mississippi Hometown Lost It All and Found What Mattered. Koch was once a resident of Bay St. Louis.

The book “is my best effort to share the extraordinary, gut-wrenching journey that my family, friends and neighbors in Mississippi began” when Katrina hit, Koch writes on her website. “I wish I could say it was over. For many, it’s not. But hopefully, reading their story of loss, transformation and recovery will inspire others struggling to overcome what might seem insurmountable obstacles.”

According to Koch’s website, a portion of the book’s proceeds will benefit two nonprofits that focus on recovery efforts in Bay St. Louis.
