Josh Bernstein Tapped As Investigative Reporter For Al Jazeera America

By Alex Weprin

Al Jazeera America has named Josh Bernstein as an on-air investigative reporter, based in Washington DC. He will report to Ed Pound, the senior EP and head of AJA’s investigative unit.

Fittingly, given the recent national security leaks, Bernstein will focus on “corruption, fraud, waste, and official wrongdoing,” and “will be responsible for breaking news, uncovering scandals, and educating the public on what is really going on behind the closed doors of power,” the channel says.

Bernstein is a veteran investigative reporter, most recently for Fox affiliate KDVR Denver. He also worked for the shuttered iPad mag “The Daily” in New York, KNXV Phoenix and KCRA Sacramento.

“Government, corporations, and those in power must be accountable to the American public,’’ Bernstein says in a statement. “That is where we will focus our efforts.’’

Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Joins Investigative Unit Focused on Uncovering Wrongdoing and Shining a Spotlight on Those Who Abuse Power

NEW YORK – (June 10, 2013) — Al Jazeera America announced today that eight-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Josh Bernstein will be the channel’s on-air investigative reporter based in Washington, D.C.

Bernstein will be responsible for breaking news, uncovering scandals, and educating the public on what is really going on behind the closed doors of power. He will focus on corruption, fraud, waste, and official wrongdoing.

“In his 14-year career as an investigative reporter, Josh has dedicated himself to righting wrongs,’’ says Ed Pound, senior executive producer and head of Al Jazeera America’s investigative unit. “He will bring the kind of high energy, professionalism, and integrity that we want at Al Jazeera America. He will be a strong addition to our team.’’

Although based in Washington, Bernstein’s “beat’’ will be the country. “Government, corporations, and those in power must be accountable to the American public,’’ Bernstein says. “That is where we will focus our efforts.’’

Over the years, his work has resulted in the removal of public officials from office; some ended up in federal prison. Most recently, he was the senior investigative reporter for KDVR FOX 31 in Denver, Colorado. Prior to that, he was an investigative correspondent for “The Daily” in New York City, at KNXV-TV in Phoenix, Ariz., KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif., and WPMI-TV in Mobile, Ala.

“During his 14-year career, Josh has been dogged in his pursuit of those who abuse the public trust,” said Ed Pound, senior executive producer and head of Al Jazeera America’s investigative unit. “That’s precisely the type of journalism we will do every day at Al Jazeera America and we’re excited that Josh will be joining the team.
