Journeyman journalist John Miller may be on the move again.
The CBS News correspondent is negotiating his exit from the network to join the New York City Police Department, the New York Post reports. Miller would join the force as his old boss, former LAPD police chief Bill Bratton prepares to re-take the reins at the NYPD. (Bratton himself joined NBC News a few months ago as an analyst, a job he’ll be giving up).
Miller joined CBS in 2011. He’d spent the previous 6 years in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence working with the CIA, NSA, FBI, and other agencies. Last night Miller reported a two-part “60 Minutes” story on NSA surveillance.
Miller has bounced between jobs as a journalist and in law enforcement his entire career. His first job was as a reporter for WNEW (now Fox5) in New York City. In 1985 he joined WNBC and left 9 years later to join Bratton at the NYPD. He returned to TV news as a correspondent for ABC News in 1995 where he remained for 7 years, being named “20/20” co-anchor in 2002. Miller left ABC to join Bratton at the LAPD in 2003 where he was head of the Counterterrorism and Criminal Intelligence.
