‘Joe The Plumber’ Does Not Appreciate CNN’s ‘Gotcha’ Questions

By Alex Weprin

Remember “Joe the Plumber?” He was the gentleman back in 2008 who questioned then-candidate Barack Obama about his tax policy, with his simple question leading to a now-infamous response by Obama about spreading the wealth. Joe ended up dominating the news cycle for a few days, popping up every now and then through the election.

Well, he’s back, and he’s running for Congress as a Republican. “Joe,” (real name Samuel Wurzelbacher) is the Republican nominee in Ohio’s ninth Congressional district.

“Joe” appeared on CNN’s “Early Start” this morning, where anchor Zoraida Sambolin asked him what seemed like a straightforward question on statements he had made about allowing gay people around his kids. Of course, in today’s highly-charged atmosphere, any question that could be controversial or political is a “gotcha!”
