Joe and Mika Talk Obama, Twitter on the “Menu”

By SteveK

For today’s mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast, we were live from the MSNBC green room at 30 Rock. I was slated to talk to Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for a video interview about the TVNewser Summit, where they’ll be appearing next Tuesday, just before they left the building to begin their WABC radio show (video coming tomorrow).

But first, the podcast. Before the co-hosts joined the conversation, we talked to two special guests who walked into the green room — Chuck Todd and The Nation’s Ari Melber. Then it was on to Joe and Mika, who were broadcasting from the White House last week. “My takeaway from that was what type of White House we have now,” said Scarborough. “Mika and I have been very critical of the stimulus package…and yet the White House invited us to be the first show on in there, and it shows a much more open minded approach to the media.”

Scarborough was critical of his own party. “It makes me start to wonder sometimes whether instead of being identified in the future as a former Republican Congressman, I will not be referred to as former Republican, because I’m sick and tired of hacks running my party,” he said.

The hosts are now active on Twitter, and Brzezinski gave one reason why. “It was actually a useful tool,” she said. “People were sending articles and you can get into an intellectual community and start exchanging ideas. And that’s why I’m intrigued.”

Also discussed: their new WABC radio show, Scarborough’s take on the Fairness Doctrine and hear what Todd had to say about the White House’s response to Jim Cramer yesterday.
