When Joe Scarborough first saw President Trump’s tweets Thursday morning, he thought it was a joke.
“Everybody came in and ran and showed me the tweets and I looked at them. I was like ‘this has to be a joke,'” said Scarborough on his show this morning. “The president of the United States, as bad as he’s been in the past, he has really gone over the cliff,” Scarborough added.
“It’s been fascinating and frightening and really sad for our country,” added Brzezinski who, along with Scarborough, directly addressed the lies in Trump’s tweets in a Washington Post op-ed this morning.
“My family brought me up really well,” Brzezinski added. “I’m fine. This is absolutely nothing. But I am very concerned as to what this once again reveals about the President of the United States.”
“It was amazing how many lies he packed into two tweets,” Brzezinski said, saying she did not have a face lift, but rather had her “chin tweaked.”
“The skin under my chin. I’m pretty transparent about what I do, and I think it looks awesome.”
Scarborough spoke about Trump’s voters: “They voted for Donald Trump because they wanted somebody who would fight for them, and instead, all they’ve gotten is somebody that will fight for himself and pick fights with people that don’t matter.”
Willie Geist also revealed that the National Enquirer was working on a story on the couple and promised that if Joe and Mika had apologized to Trump, the president would “spike” the story. Scarborough explained:
We got a call that, the National Enquirer is going to run a negative story. And they said, if you call the president up and you apologize for your coverage, then he will pick up the phone and basically spike the story. Three people at the very top of the administration calling me, and the response was like, are you kidding me? I don’t know what they have. Run a story. I’m not going to do it. The calls kept coming. and kept coming.
“They were pinning the story on my ex-husband,” Brzezinski added. “And I knew he would never do that. So I knew it was a lie and they had nothing. These calls persisted for quite some time. They were threatening. They were calling my children,” she said.
Brzezinski and Scarborough, who are newly engaged, were supposed to be on vacation but chose to come on the show in the 7 a.m. hour to explain. They, and their panel, spent 33 commercial-free minutes discussing the tweets, the reaction and what’s next. Then they went on vacation.
Just before 9 a.m. ET, Pres. Trump disputed Joe and Mika’s version of the National Enquirer story:
