Madonna and the Mayor were just two of the drop-ins on tonight’s “Saturday Night Live” hosted by SNL alum Jimmy Fallon. Paul McCartney, Barry Gibb and Chris Rock stopped by too. During “Weekend Update” there was a passing of the baton. When Fallon, a former “Weekend Update” anchor takes the reins at the “Tonight Show” next year, current “Update” anchor Seth Myers takes over his job at “Late Night.”
“I hosted ‘Late Night’ for five years and now the ‘Tonight Show,’ Fallon said during “Update.” “Five years after that I’ll host the ‘Nightly News,’ then, five years after that the ‘Today’ show. And five years after that I’m the new Carson Daly.”
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is leaving his job on New Year’s Eve talked about his future plans: “I’ll be fulfilling a lifelong dream of consuming a small soda on a smoke-free beach.” Bloomberg also joked that he’s applied to teach Spanish.
Earlier on “Update,” Myers joked about an upcoming New Year’s Eve special: “NBC announced this week that Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will host a primetime special on the network called ‘A Toast to 2013,’ in which they recount their favorite stories from the past year. But, shh, it’s actually an intervention.”
