Jeter 3000th Hit Documentary Premieres July 28 on HBO

The combined HBO/MLB documentary on Derek Jeter’s quest for 3000 hits — Derek Jeter 3Kpremieres next Thursday, July 28, at 9 p.m. on HBO. The Yankee captain wore a microphone for the game against Tampa Bay in which he went 5-5 and collected his milestone base hit on a home run off Rays left-hander David Price, so the hour-long documentary promises to include some previously unseen aspects to the future Hall of Famer’s on-field approach. Jeter, who had never been miced up during a game prior to this documentary, also wore a microphone in the game prior to his record-setting day.

It’ll be interesting to see how much time in the documentary is devoted to Christian Lopez, the selfless Yankee fan who asked for nothing in exchange for returning the milestone ball to Jeter. Lopez became a story himself when it came to light that he owed more than a $100,000 in school loans and would be hit with taxes on the free goods and services he received from the Yankees for turning over the valuable piece of memorabilia to Jeter.
