CBS News correspondent Jeff Glor has been named anchor of the CBS Evening News.
Glor takes over for Anthony Mason, who has been interim anchor, since Scott Pelley left the broadcast in June. Mason will continue as CBS News senior national correspondent and as co-host of CBS This Morning: Saturday.

The CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor will launch later this year. The program will continue to be led by CBS News executive editor Steve Capus.
Glor becomes the seventh anchor in the 55 year history of the CBS Evening News, following in the footsteps of Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, who was paired with Connie Chung for two years in the 1990s, Bob Schieffer, Katie Couric, and Scott Pelley.
At 42, Glor also becomes the youngest of the three broadcast evening news anchors. ABC’s David Muir is 43 and NBC’s Lester Holt is 58.
The CBS broadcast has been mired in third place in the evenings for decades. Currently, ABC’s World News Tonight is the most-watched newscast, while Holt’s NBC Nightly News is most-watched among the younger news demo of adults 25-54.
Glor joined CBS in 2007 as a correspondent based in New York. He began anchoring the weekend editions of Evening News in 2009 and was the news anchor on the short-lived revamp of the Early Show in 2011. He returned to anchoring weekends in 2012. He’s also been a correspondent for 60 Minutes Sports and CBS Sunday Morning.
Glor joined CBS News from WHDH in Boston where he was weekend evening news anchor and a weekday reporter.
Glor and his new competitor at ABC, David Muir, have been on parallel careers. Both are from upstate New York: Muir from Syracuse and Glor from the Buffalo area; both got their first TV jobs in Syracuse: Muir at WTVH and Glor at WSTM; both went on to Boston: Muir at WCVB and Glor at WHDH. Both then went to New York: Muir to ABC and Glor to CBS.
