Jay Leno On ABC Rumor: “That Was Started By a Disgruntled Employee — Me”

It’s official. Jay Leno stays at NBC and gets a prime time slot — 10pmET/PT — most likely to be called “The Jay Leno Show.”

In a news conference, carried on MSNBC, Leno said the show will be similar to the Tonight Show with “the monologue and news” and “man on the street stuff.”

“We will try to come up with interesting things to do to keep it fresh, and news makers and topical stuff,” Leno said.

As for the stories that he was ready to leave NBC and jump to a competitor, Leno said, “Well, there were reports that I was going to go to ABC, but that was started by a disgruntled employee — me!”

And as Leno becomes the lead-in for the late local newscasts, he joked that he might be getting his own lead-in from NBC’s increasingly expanding morning show: “Where I am coming on at 10, I will be on right after the last hour of the new ‘Today’ show.”
