January 2015 Ratings: MSNBC Down Double Digits

MSNBC saw another down month in January. The network lost -23% of its primetime viewership and was down -39% for primetime demo vs. January 2014, which was the height of Bridgegate, giving MSNBC a ratings boost for the month

  • Primetime (Mon-Sun): 518,000 total viewers / 141,000 A25-54
  • Total Day (Mon-Sun): 323,000 total viewers / 93,000 A25-54

In January 2014, “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the fifth most-watched show on cable news in the demo, averaging 305,000 viewers. Last month, Maddow’s show ranked No. 26 in the demo, averaging 153,000, down -50% year-over-year. It remains MSNBC’s most-watched show. Last year, “Morning Joe” was ranked #28 of all cable news shows in the demo. This January it is #47, and in fourth place in the demo behind “Fox & Friends,” “New Day,” and “Morning Express.”

CNN is now firmly in second place, behind Fox News, among the cable news networks with a +59% lead in the primetime demo over the NBCU channel.
