It’s Been 10 Years Since Hurricane Katrina, So Expect a Ton of Specials

By Brian Flood

As we approach the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in late August, expect to see pretty much every news organization announce some type of special content. The first one is ABC News’ Katrina: 10 Years After the Storm with Robin Roberts.

“I’ve lost count how many times I’ve traveled back home these last 10 years after Katrina,” Roberts said. “With my own eyes I’ve witnessed the determination and grit of volunteers and locals to not only rebuild but also revitalize that beautiful region of our country. It’s a challenging story of loss and growth that’s still unfolding.”

Roberts will return to the region, exploring Hurricane Katrina’s legacy, examine the recovery and celebrate the indomitable spirit that runs through New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Roberts’ own family was impacted by the storm in Pass Christian, Mississippi and the ABC newser will introduce survivors and volunteers who have never before shared their stories.

The special will air for the rest of us on Aug. 23 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
