MIAMI, JANUARY 18, 2013 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications, Inc, the leading media company serving Hispanic America, has announced that it will provide comprehensive coverage of the 2013 Presidential Inauguration, LIVE from Washington, D.C. Monday, January 21. The special broadcast will begin at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT on the Univision Network, with live streaming on UnivisionNoticias.com, YouTube.com/politics and via the Noticias Univision Mobile App.
Spanning approximately three hours, Univision News’ live coverage of the inaugural ceremonies for President Barack Obama will be led by Jorge Ramos, host of “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) and “Al Punto” (To The Point), who will be stationed in the nation’s Capital along with Satcha Pretto, news anchor for Univision’s morning show “Despierta América” (Wake Up America) and Felix de Bedout, co-anchor for the weekend edition of “Noticiero Univision.” In addition, Washington correspondent Lourdes Meluzá will be at the Capitol, while correspondents Luis Megid, Nayeli Chávez-Geller and Blanca Rosa Vílchez will report from the National Mall, Pennsylvania Avenue, and the White House, respectively.
Univision will bring viewers every detail of the day’s festivities, including:
- The Inaugural Swearing-in Ceremony on the Capitol steps, which will feature President Obama’s Inaugural Address, musical selections, a reading by Cuban-American poet Richard Blanco, a closing benediction, and performances by James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyoncé.
- The Presidential Inauguration Parade, an honored tradition presenting a colorful procession of ceremonial military regiments, diverse organizations and civil groups, marching bands, and spectacular Inaugural floats down a 1.5 mile route on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Additionally, Univision’s newsmagazine “Primer Impacto” will join the coverage of President Barack Obama’s Inauguration, with co-host Pamela Silva Conde anchoring the show LIVE from Washington, D.C. on Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
These events will be followed later in the evening with two Inaugural Balls. Additional coverage of the balls and other related news will be featured throughout Univision News’ local and network programming. Local news will be covered by Fernando Pizarro y Adriana Vargas.
In addition, a special ceremony organized by the Hispanic community to honor President Obama in commemoration of his second Inauguration will take place at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington D.C. on Sunday, January 20, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. ET. Univision.com will stream the event LIVE which will be attended by numerous Hispanic celebrities including Antonio Banderas, Sofía Vergara, Eva Longoria and Marc Anthony.
Because the U.S. Constitution prescribes that the official Inauguration Day should be January 20, a private swearing-in ceremony will be held for President Obama on Sunday, January 20 in the White House. Univision News will cover this important event on Sunday, with a special edition of “Al Punto,” hosted by Jorge Ramos, followed by a brief coast to coast update at 11:50 a.m.
