In Early Ratings, ‘GMA’ Takes Tuesday

By Chris Ariens

According to preliminary Nielsen fast affiliate data “Good Morning America” placed first Tuesday in both Total Viewers and A25-54 viewers. “GMA” had +151,000 lead on “Today” in Total Viewers (4.326M vs. 4.175M) and an +11,000 lead among younger viewers (1.690M vs. 1.679M). The show was also #1 on Monday and Friday.

In fact, this is the first time since fast affiliate data has been kept (Sept. 2004) that “GMA” has topped “Today” three days in a row in younger viewers. The two preliminary wins this week come as a new “Today” show team takes shape, with the addition of Savannah Guthrie has co-host.

While “Today” had its 16-year unbeaten streak broken in April, the show continues as the #1 morning program among A25-54 viewers. “Today” has not lost an entire week among the ad-friendly demo in 896 weeks. Final numbers for this week will be released Thursday, July 19.
