On “Reliable Sources” this morning, just after reporting the news of the death of Rodney King, Howard Kurtz asked his guests Current TV’s Cenk Uygur and Dailly Caller’s Matt Lewis about Friday’s Rose Garden announcement about changes to U.S. immigration laws, and Pres. Obama being interrupted in the middle of his remarks. Lewis’ colleague Neil Munro asked the question which drew a sharp response from the president.
“Would you have done what he did? Was he wrong?,” Kurtz asked Lewis. “Cenk just said that we should be aggressive when asking questions. There was going to be no question and answer. This was the only chance he had to ask a question.”
Kurtz disagreed: “He had no business interrupting the president.”
“The press corps should be a little less deferential to authority,” Lewis shot back. “He did the right thing.”
“I understand that you have to defend your guy,” Kurtz began to say, before Lewis jumped in, “I’m not defending my guy, I’m defending the right for reporters to ask questions.”
