Howard Kurtz’s decision to leave CNN for Fox News this week was news on his CNN show today, but it wasn’t on the show he’s about to take over. Kurtz spent most of his pen-ultimate CNN show covering the breaking news of NSA leaker Edward Snowden arriving in Moscow, including an interview — for the third time in as many weeks — with The Guardian’s Glenn Greenwald who broke the Snowden news. At the end of the show Kurtz said,
Finally, a word about me. You may have read somewhere that after 15 years of anchoring this program, I’ll be moving on from CNN to become a media and political analyst for Fox News. It has been a privilege to occupy this chair and I will have more to say about this on my final program next week which of course is a little tease to get to you tune in next Sunday morning.
Kurtz also didn’t shy away from criticizing his new network. In a story first revealed by TVNewser Friday, Kurtz called out ABC’s “Good Morning America” and Fox News for erroneously reporting that an arrest warrant had been issued for NFL player Aaron Hernandez.
On Thursday Kurtz revealed he’d signed on with Fox News to host a revamped “Fox News Watch.” The Fox show made no mention of the change during this weekend’s episode. Current host Jon Scott has been named anchor in the Fox News specials unit while the contributions of “Fox News Watch” regulars Judith Miller, Cal Thomas an Jim Pinkerton have not been revealed.
It’s also not known if the Kurtz-led Fox News media affairs show will be a half hour, as “Fox News Watch” is currently, or expand to an hour, as “Reliable Sources” is.
