How This Former ‘Married With Children’ Writer Became ESPN’s Fantasy Sports Expert

By Brian Flood

Matthew Berry had a unique path to success, ultimately becoming a trailblazer for the now booming fantasy sports industry. ESPN’s senior fantasy sports analyst started his career as a writer for the iconic sitcom Married With Children and landed a gig covering fantasy sports because, he says, the company looked him up on IMDb.

Berry took an unpaid job writing about fantasy sports on the Internet in 1999 and 16 years later is the author of a New York Times best-seller, Fantasy Life. He appears regularly on a variety of ESPN programs and hosts a popular podcast called Fantasy Focus. Berry said it isn’t his dream job because “when I was dreaming of jobs, it didn’t exist.”
