While the big news story is going on at Columbia University tonight, CNBC president Mark Hoffman will be at a different Columbia for an event tomorrow — at the University of Missouri at the Journalism School.

He is profiled in the school’s paper, and discusses the changes at CNBC and its role for the parent company, NBC.

“In 2005, when Mark Hoffman became president of CNBC, ratings were at an all-time low,” writes James Saracini to begin the article. “Three years later, Fortune magazine named CNBC the top business news channel.”

Hoffman describes CNBC’s role in the corporate structure. “We have to be sure to stay hyper-focused on politics of finance and business,” he says. “We are the business and economics team that NBC News uses.”
