Highlights: Shep Smith On Letterman

By Brian

Shep Smith sat down with David Letterman last night and proved why he’s the best. “I can’t show you or tell you the scope of it and it goes as far as the eye can see,” he said, fresh from a week of covering the situation in New Orleans.

“I grew up down there — these storms are not a surprise,” Smith said. (He’s a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi; he noted that “South Mississippi has been laregely ignored,” and blamed “the cycle of news.”)

Smith relayed the scenes he witnessed on Interstate 10. “It was clear to us that there was people coming out of the sewage wth no where to go…It put our crew in a position to see things you’d never thought you’d see in the United States of America,” he said.
